Prof. Pat Utomi
A fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria and founding Senior Faculty of the Lagos Business School -Pan African University, he was Director of The Centre For Applied Economics at the Lagos Business School. He has served in Senior positions in government, as an Adviser to the President of Nigeria; the Private Sector, as Chief Operating Officer for Volkswagen of Nigeria, and in academia. He is the author of several Management and Public Policy books including the Award Winning Managing Uncertainty: Competition and Strategy in Emerging Economies, 1998 and the 2006 book Why Nations are Poor.. His academic background covers a range from Policy Economics, Business Administration, and Political Science to Mass Communication. As an entrepreneur he has founded or co-founded companies that are active in fields including financial services, ICT, Media and Agriculture.
Appointed Professor of the Social and Political Economy Environment of Business, the pioneer Entrepreneurship teacher at LBS has been a scholar-in-residence at the Harvard Business School and the American University in Washington DC. As leader of Civil Society, he is the founder of the Centre for Values in Leadership; The Widow Support Centre and the Concerned Professionals, which was bulwark against-military oppression, among numerous other social enterprise initiatives.
He has served on the key apex private sector associations, including the Lagos Chamber of Commerce, The National Council of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Employers Consultative Association (NECA). He is active on the International speaking circuit, especially on the subjects of Growth Economics, Comparative Development Economics, Leadership, the Curse of Oil and China’s Economic surge and growing influence in Africa.
He has collaborated fairly frequently with the center for strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington and Chatham House in the UK. He has also written commissioned papers for the UK’s DFID including the latest collaboration with Colleagues from Oxford on the Political Economy of growth in Nigeria. He is a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins School of Advance International Studies (SAIS).
He has studied and written about the Political economy of growth in Latin America and Asia, particularly Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India and Hong Kong, countries in which he is much traveled.
Utomi who was voted one of the top 10 Nigerian Living Legends in the Vanguard Newspaper/Silver Bird Television poll in 2009.
A multitasker, he has reached the top in several different endeavours, becoming one of Nigeria’s top managers in Manufacturing before his 33rd birthday, reaching a Presidential Advisory position at 27; earning two Master Degrees and a PhD at 26, a Professorship and global acknowledgement as a leading scholar in Business, Political Economy and Media Studies in his forties. His first publication in a refereed international journal appeared in 1981 in a European Journal, Gazette. He is perhaps the first candidate for President in Nigeria to be formally endorsed by such renowned scholars as the Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka and Prof Sam Aluko among others.

As a Business Angel he has helped found such companies as Linkserve (Nigeria’s first ISP), Socketworks (Pioneer e-government systems developer in Nigeria, and Business Day (Nigeria’s first daily business newspaper) He created the iconic LBS monthly executive briefing breakfast and hosted it for its first 10 years, and inspired the founding of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies of LBS (now EDC) after a 1996 visit to the Sole C Snyder Centre at Wharton, in Philadelphia. His other books include Critical Perspectives in Political Economy and Management; To Serve is to Live; Business Angel as a Missionary and four other books that are collections of his published opinions. He was candidate for President of Nigeria in 2007 and 2011.

Dr. Olisa Agbakoba SAN
Dr. Olisa Agbakoba SAN established an iconic and stellar reputation in the field of human rights in Africa and Nigeria. In 1987, he co-foundered the Civil Liberties Organization of Nigeria (CLO), one of Africa’s largest human rights organizations. In 1997, Dr. Agbakoba founded HURILAWS, a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to advancing human rights through organized and consistent public interest litigation. He is also co-founder of AFRONET, the Inter-African Network for Human Rights and Development, one of the strongest Pan-African organizations seeking to develop the African human rights movement.
During the dreaded regime of General Sani Abacha as military president in Nigeria, Dr. Agbakoba SAN convened the United Action for Democracy (UAD), Nigeria’s largest coalition of human rights groups that fought and opposed late General Abacha’s attempt to rule Nigeria indefinitely. On 3rd March, 1998, the UAD organized a 5 million-person march to oppose a staged Government rally that was calling on Gen. Abacha to continue in office. Dr. Agbakoba was tear-gassed, badly bruised, beaten, detained and arrested by the Police. On May 1, 1998, the UAD also led a 20-city strike against continued Military rule in Nigeria. Apparently in fear of what Agbakoba might organize next, General Abacha had him (Agbakoba) arrested and detained in prison. While in prison, Agbakoba narrowly escaped assassination, and was only released on June 25, 1998, following the surprising death of General Abacha. The UAD was acknowledged as one of the major leading opponents to General Abacha in his days in office.
Born in Jos, Plateau State of Nigeria on May 29, 1953, Dr. Agbakoba is an old student of Christ the Kings College, Onitsha, Immaculate Conception College, Enugu and later Government College, Ughelli, Delta State. He is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from where he graduated with LL.B (Hons) in 1977. In 1980 he proceeded to the London School of Economics and obtained the Master’s degree of Law, LL.M. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978 and was conferred with the lawyers’ rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1997. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a member of the Institute of Directors and Officer of the Order of Nigeria.
Aside from human rights, his work in law especially in the area of maritime law in Nigeria has been profound. Among his major publications are Federal High Court Practice Manual (published by LexisNexis, South Africa) Maritime Newsletter Volumes one and two; Manual on Election Petition in Nigeria; Maritime Cabotage in Nigeria; Bankruptcy Proceedings in Nigeria; Development Law Books (in three volumes; Towards A People Constitution in Nigeria; Transcending the Wall: A manual for Prisoners Reform. Others are: The Legal basis of the organization of African Unity Force in the Chad; Journal of International Law, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs 1981; Journal of Human Rights Law and Practice: Nigeria’s State Security (detention of persons) Decree No 2 of 1984; Exposing the Myth of Judicial Impotence with Tunde Fagbohunlu (1991), Incursions into the Legal Profession, the way out speech given at the conference on the reform of civil adjudication, Lagos, December 1995; The Statute of Limitation in Admiralty Proceedings: A Case for Fresh Initiatives in Maritime Laws and Reforms in Marine Insurance Law, among many others.
Olisa Agbakoba SAN is the Senior Partner of Olisa Agbakoba Legal (formerly Olisa Agbakoba & Associates) He is a member of the Nigeria Bar Association (former president of the NBA from 2006 to 2008); International Bar Association and affiliated to many international organizations.
He has won several international human rights prizes for his work in promoting and defending human rights
Mr. Opeyemi Agbaje
Mr Opeyemi Agbaje is CEO of RTC Advisory Services Ltd, a leadingstrategy and business advisory arm. He is a respected economic and policy analyst and author of the authoritative weekly column,“Economy, Polity, Society” in Businessday. Mr Agbaje was on the faculty of the Lagos Business School teaching Business Strategy and Social, Political and Economic Environment of Business (SPEB), leaving in 2008 as Head of Department of Strategyand Entrepreneurship. Dr Leroy Edozien
Leroy Chuma Edozien is a medical doctor and a doctor of law. He holds qualifications in the Basic Medical Sciences (BSc, MSc), Medicine (MB BS) and Law (LLB, MPhil, PhD) from the Universities of Ibadan, London and Glasgow. He is a member of West African, UK and Irish postgraduate medical colleges (FWACS, FRCOG, MRCPI).
